I can't stand Juliet, but I'm fascinated by her (as opposed to Kate, who is both insufferable and boring) so I kind of liked last night's eppy. I was super-excited because I thought we got a whole lotta answers, but by the end of the episode, I wasn't sure what was true and what wasn't.
Anyway, here goes:
ON THE ISLAND:
Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Juliet make their way back to the beach. They stop and make camp for the night and Jack and Kate go to collect firewood. While they're alone, Kate asks Jack what happened for the week while he was with the Others. He said that he'd made a deal that he could go home if he helped Ben, so for that week he kept his head down and didn't ask any questions. Kate (and I) don't quite buy it.
Meanwhile, Sayid asks Juliet what we've all been wondering: who the f*ck IS she, and how did she get there. She answers that she won't tell him anything because if she does, he'll kill her. Sayid looks pissed but Jack returns and tells him to lay off.
On the beach Charlie hears Aaron crying and tends to him. He wakes up Claire, who doesn't feel well and who was sleeping so soundly that she didn't even hear the baby. Charlie offers to take care of Aaron so that Claire can relax. She wakes up later, looking even worse, and asks for some aspirin. Sawyer cheerfully offers to get some for her when Jack, Kate, and Sayid return. There are hugs all around (Sawyer even hugs Jack, and then he and Kate have one of those really tender hugs where he strokes her hair and shizz) and then Sawyer notices Juliet. The whole camp gives her a nasty, nasty glare.
Later on, Juliet is sitting alone on the beach. Hurley comes over to make conversation and be be all Hurley-esque. Juliet asks if he was sent over to keep an eye on her and he says that he was.
Most of the people on the beach are arguing with Jack about Juliet staying with them. Jack has resumed leadership VERY quickly, though, and tries to convince them that Juliet is one of them now and is staying. Claire joins the conversation but quickly passes out, blood seeping from her mouth. Charlie goes apesh*t (of course) and Juliet tells Kate that she knows what's wrong with Claire because she did it to her.
Juliet tells Jack that pregnant women always die on the island (he sneaks a worrisome glance at Sun) because their bodies attack the fetus like it was a foreign object. She says that Ethan was sent to infiltrate their camp to take secret blood samples from Claire and to administer a serum that Juliet had developed. The serum was the reason that Claire survived. But, when Hurley discovered that Ethan wasn't on the plane, the plan backfired and Ethan had to kidnap Claire. Juliet says that Ethan did so on his own, without the approval of the other Others. And she says that Claire is sick now because she is going through withdrawal of the serum. She says that Ethan kept some meds hidden by the caves, and that she'll go get the serum to inject into Claire. He lets her go.
But she's followed by Sayid and Sawyer, who hold her at gunpoint and demand she drops the medical case. She tells them that, as a torturer and murderer, they have no right to play moral police with her, and that if they don't let her get back to the beach, Claire will die.
Back at the beach, Juliet injects Claire. Jack tells her that, if it doesn't work, he won't be able to protect her anymore. But, soon afterwards, Claire wakes up and it's obvious that she's doing much better.
Jack brings Juliet some tarps and blankets and shizz. She asks her why he trusts her, and he says that he saw the look on her face when Locke blew up the sub. She wanted off the island as much as the rest of them do, and that makes her one of them.
Later, Juliet sets up her tarp, alone, with a shady-ass look on her face, which will be explained when I talk about her flashback.
THE FLASHBACK:
Juliet and her sister Rachel arrive at a secret airport and are greeted by Richard Alpert and Ethan. They help her with her bags and tell her that she has to say goodbye to Rachel now, because they have to accompany her inside. Juliet and Rachel say goodbye, and we learn that Rachel is in remission from her cancer and is definitely pregnant.
Inside the airport terminal, Juliet signs papers while Ethan takes her vitals. Alpert hands her a glass and tells her that it's orange juice with tranquilizer in it. She asks why and he tells her that she won't want to be awake for the trip because it's rough. She balks at first, but Alpert tells her how special the place is where she's going. She chugs the juice. Ethan comically says, "Uh... you probably shouldn't have drank that so fast" and then Juliet passes out (hilariously, the closed-captioning on my TV said "thud.")
She wakes up strapped to a cot on the submarine. She wakes up and Alpert unstraps her. She gets out of the sub and beholds the island in all its glory. Ben approaches, introduces himself, and welcomes her.
Some time later, Juliet in the OR of the Staff Station. The woman Ethan is working on table flatlines and dies. Juliet looks heartbroken and Goodwin, also in the OR, comforts her. She goes to the beach and sits, alone. Ben approaches her and says that the woman, Sabine, knew the risks she was taking when she became pregnant. Juliet declares her theory that the problems occur when the baby is conceived. She continues by pointing out that she can only be certain of her theory if she is allowed to take one of the women from the Island. Ben won't allow her to leave. Juliet argues that six months have passed and it's time for her to go home and be with Rachel when she gives birth. Ben tells her that Rachel's cancer has returned and that by the time Juliet gets home, she'll be dead. But, Ben says that if Juliet will stay on the island, then "Jacob" will cure Rachel's cancer. Juliet agrees.
Later on again, Juliet eats ice cream in bed, after boinking Goodwin. She tells him that she's been on the island for three years. Shortly afterwards, she's looking at x-rays that Karl delivered. She takes them to Ben, explaining that the back pain he was having was caused by a tumor. He's surprised and she asks why. He says it's because he has cancer, and she retorts, "I said a tumor, not cancer." She gets SUPER pissed and accuses Ben of lying to her about her sister. She sobs and asks to go home again, and he says it's not possible.
We see a familiar flashback - Juliet puts on "Downtown" by Petula Clark and cries in the mirror. Book club, blah blah blah, the ground shakes, blah blah blah, they run outside, and see 815 crash. Ben sends Ethan and Goodwin to their respective camps and says he wants lists, blah blah blah, and then he tells Juliet to come with him.
He takes her to Mikhail's (hilariously yelling, "MIKHAIL, IT'S BEN. WE ARE APPROACHING THE HOUSE. PLEASE DON'T SHOOT US") and shows her a wall of TV monitors. One shows a close-up of that day's newspaper to prove the date, and then they see footage of a healthy looking Rachel (with hair) playing with a little boy on the playground. Ben says that she named her son Julian. Juliet sobs with happiness but Ben tells Mikhail to shut down the feed. Juliet begs for a few more moments. She asks again to return home, but Ben says she cannot leave until she finishes her research, and suggests that there might be more pregnant women on the plane that just crashed.
Later, we see Juliet talking to Ben (in his wheelchair). He tells her to go over the plan again. She says that she is to take Kate into the jungle, and handcuff herself to Kate. That she is to act as if she were left behind as well. She is to return with them to the camp at the beach and try to gain their trust. Ben says that that they set-off "the implant" inside Claire and that within 48 hours she will need medical attention. He says that he'll have supplies placed at Ethan's old drop-off point. He gives her a gas mask and leaves stating, "I'll see you in a week."
Duh duh DUM!
Okay, a few questions:
1. What happened between the day of the plane crash and now, that turned Juliet into a fairly normal-type person, into a cold, calculating person? Do we think she was very affected by the death of her lover?
2. If pregnant women die on the island, how did Rousseau give birth? And Ben says he was born on the island. Whuh the fuh?
3 So did Ben have cancer or didn't he? It could very well have been a benign (but still dangerous) tumor, but I couldn't figure out what they were trying to tell us there.
Discuss.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL MORNING FOR THIS!!
1ok, I've calmed down now.
OK - I felt the same way you did. I was just sitting there going, wow, they're finally giving us some answers, I love it! And then BAM! Shady Juliet. Hmmmm... She had me totally fooled. I guess I trust Jack too much? My theory is that she isn't necessary calculating and evil, but willing to do whatever she needs to do to get off the island. Who knows what Ben promised her.
2Also, Juliet came to the island a little more than three years before the losties, I just realized it would have been right around the time of 9/11. Just a thought, don't know if that will have anything to do with anything.
Oh, and also, this time when the plane crashed, it almost looked like there was something going TOWARDS the plane, like it was shot down or something. Anyone else notice that?
3MOTHERF*CK!!!!!!!!!!! I was actually HERE for once this week, got in bed to wait for lost and..........
............
.................
............................
Yes b*tches, I F*CKING FELL ASLEEP AND MISSED IT!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAAA @*(#&u!@#(*!@&#(@*#&!@(#*&!@#(*&@#(*#@&(@*#&!@(*#&#(*@&
4the part w/ Ben & ole Patchy was HILARIOUS!
5ok, Juliette- It seemed like she was still a caring person when Ben showed her the live feed of her sister (& nephew Juilen!). I think Ben PROMISED to let her go if she went to the beach. There flat out has to be another way off the island, unless of course there is some other hidey hole the Others are cooped up in "for a week". I bet this will be the long week in "LOST time" ever!
Pregnant women- does it mean that women can't get pregnant (b/c Sun is, & that doesn't make sence) or doe it mean that they can get pregnant but there are always complications? b/c the chick that died in the flashback got pregnant but died. & I don't get why they bought the Claire story anyway. She had already given birth so why would she get so scik? I know the Others implanted her w/ something & all, but Juliette's story doesn't really make much sence
@ Karma!!!
6I missed a few eppys b/c I was "distracted" during the show... stupid new boyfriend doesn't understand the obsession! hee hee
Well, I think Juliet was lying about Claire needing the shot. That was just a ploy so she would look like she was a big ol' hero to the losties. Maybe it's just if you conceive on the island, which would make Sun's pregnancy interesting.
7Right... because we still don't know when Sun conceived or who the baby daddy is.
8yeah, Ben said that they had activated the implant (which sounds REALLY scary) & that she had like 48 hours
9I was kinda thinking it was Sawyer...
10Once again an awesome re-cap - THANKS! This gives me an hour back (I don't need to watch it online).
I agree with SweetPeasMom and Whiplash - I think it's a ploy to trust Juliet and also both Sun and Clair conceived before the crash. Maybe the problem has to do with pregnancy or delivery?
11Yeah its a trick to make Juliette the hero. I think it is a problem w/ carrying the baby to full term, nit w/ concieving
12So the shots they gave Claire, were they the reason she carried to term? Or would she have carried to term anyway since she didn't conceive on the island?
13Who else laughed out loud when Jack said, "She's under my protection."
14God dammit I thought I was done watching this shizz on the computer once I moved in here and hookedup cable
I need to start taping the eppys.. I MISS TIVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15SweetPeas - not sure - I think so. I haven't seen the episode and am going off the recap.
16karma - can I get TIVO with DirectTV?
17I want to know what the device in Claire looks like that they could just turn on and off.....creepy
Also Im still not sure about Juliet's intentions- is she with The Others and following Ben's commands or is she against them and just pretending to follow and she will screw them all over
18Argh I was so spoiled with that shizz at Craigs! I WANT TIVO DAMMIT!!!!!!
19GirlC- yes, I have DirecTV and got a free DVR. Call them up and tell them you want to upgrade, it's like $4 extra a month, plus the box, which you can probably get for free if you ask for it. We've been with them for about 6 years and called and just said, hey, we've had you forever, can we get the free DVR box, and they said ok.
20That was such a great episode - i totally fell for the whole Juliette being good thing until the end.
I think that the issue is that people can conceive on the island, they just die during childbirth - and Claire was the first one to survive childbirth due to the vaccine Ethan gave her. But, that doesn't explain a few things. (1) Danielle supposedly had Alex on the island, and (2) Benry said last week that he was born on the island???
Finally, how do we know Goodwin? I can't remember. Is he one of the ones that Ana Lucia killed?
21Yeah Ana killed Goodwin
22I still think the whole thing with Juliette's sister is fishy and why is their some one filming her at the playground? creepy
23I guess they have to have some thing to keep her on the island. I do have a question thought. Did we see that whole bank of tv screen when Locke, etc. were in ole Patchy's house?
24I also want to know what the hell kind of medical research they are doing on the island!
Oh, one glaring detail that I think was finally answered last night: The Others (or at least Our Others) were not responsible for hand selecting THESE people to be on THAT plane. That was something I could never figure out. I can't wait to see how everything ties together!
p.s. Why haven't any of the Losties asked about the numbers? And why don't they all know that Hurley knew them BEFORE he got to the island? Friggin' people don't COMMUNICATE.
25i HATE juliet and i didnt fall for any of her crap...remember when we saw rodrigo santoro's flashback (can't remember the name of the character...he was buried alive two epis ago) and we see ben and juliet and ben says "i exploit their emotional weaknesses?" and we all thought he was talking about jack and kate and sawyer but i think the real plan was to get juliet in with jack so that she could infiltrate the camp....did i mention i HATE her?
26How do we know that nobody else has one of those wonderful "implants"? I think Juliet is going to use them to finish her research so that Ben can somehow get her back home. I think that the "others" certainly did have a plan about who crashed there. There have been too many chain reaction coincidences (Juliet's ex-husband being hit by a bus) that prove how powerful/influential "they" are. Juliet diagnoses Ben with a spinal tumor and needs someone who hasn't become impregnated on the island and both of these people (who happen to be strangely related) fall out of the sky.
27What about he helicopter that was shown in next weeks previews? Is that how Juliet might possible get to leave?
Oh, darn it, I missed the helicopter - how did I manage that?
I'm so excited for answers each week, and then I get on here and read everyone's questions and become even more confused! How many hours until the next episode?
28How did they have all of those images of the plane taking off? Why would anybody be filming a generic commercial flight leaving
29Was it their flight? Sometimes they just show footage of the airport when they don't have pics of the actual plane. You know like, "The plane took off from Sydney's airport where our reporter in the field is talking with Oceanic's rep" blah blah blah
30Yeah SweetPea, I tivo it every week so I can watch the preview at the end of each episode in Slow-Motion. There are some really interesting things coming. A very Lord of the Flies looking scene with a body(?) hanging in a tree, Jin looking murderous etc.
31i SO want to be under jack's protection
i'm guessing the others have satellite that allows
them to capture images of juliets sister and nephew at the park and all that.
ben is so urber creepy! i don't get the connection with ben being out of the book club and all that. in that episode when it first ran it seemed like ben and juliet were a couple. the one guy at the book club said something like "i know the host picks the book but ben wouldn't read this in the bathroom". what about that? how was ben the host if it was juliet's house?
32Ben had someone named Richard at the park filming Juliet's sister. He told him "That's enough" and then "you need to get back here soon, we may have visitors" or something close to that. They can come and go as Ben pleases, remember.
Val- I think the guy's comment was that Juliet's choice wasn't really up to everyone's standards.
33I personally don't like Sayid and Juliet. Sayid is always asking questions and acting like he's the smarty and Juliet totally betrayed everyone! I thought she was nice but then I saw that she had planned the whole thing. I hate her.
34Juliet had me totally fooled too. The end was a genuine surprise, but I don't think she's an awful person, she just made a deal, like Jack did, to get something for herself if she cooperated. Personally, I think the show has gone way downhill since we found out so much about the Others. They were so scary when they were a mysterious, malevolent force. Now they're just people. Ben is all too human -- just shoot him.
35I love Dee's dancing bunny!!
36I agree, june. They were all much more scary when we didn't know who they were. Just like the monster was scarier before we ever saw it.
That's why I kind of don't ever want to find out what the whole deal is with the island, because whatever it turns out to be is going to be anticlimactic and lame.
I also agree about Juliet. I don't think she's evil, but I think she's selfish (as I would be at this point, too) and made a deal with Ben.
37who was the woman from the helicopter!?!?
