Ok, I'm taking a shot at this recap thing. The episode was basically a recap/clip show.

Executive producers Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse discuss some of the things about Lost that people are wondering. They say that whenever they add a question, they like to add more because that's often how life works. This is a show about exploration, and both the show and the characters are mysterious.

Then they go into some of the characters a little bit, like Jack, recapping that he's a spinal surgeon and has father issues. His wife, Sarah, was a patient of his, and when his surgery on her miraculously worked, he believed it was his fate to be eith her, and when his marriage to her busts up, he has a really hard time with it. He's an insecure hero.

They recap Kate, she's a fugitive. The handcuffs found the first day on the island lead to her being found out. Being stuck on the island forces her into relationships that she wouldn't be able to handle if they were off the island. She's used to running and this forces her to be still and deal with people.

Danielle Rosseau was on a research vessel that crashed on the island, the rest of the crew died.

The producers commented that the show is a giant mosaic about past, future and present. By the end of the series, we'll get a full picture of the characters.

Finally, they actually started to answer some questions:
Was the crash random?
Of course there's the dynamic between Locke being a man of faith and Jack being a man of coincidence with regard to the crash. For Locke, he's a believer in the island, and because his paralysis ended when they crashed on the island, he wants meaning in it. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to him. Desmond DID crash the plane by not putting in the numbers.

The Dharma initiative was late 70's to early 80's. The Swan station was the most important station. "The others" consist of 30 -40 people "we think"... and they recapped a few of them: Ethan, Richard Alpert, Mr. Friendly, Ben Linus- the leader who is "interesting, complex, smart, creepy, dangerous"

***********
The MONSTER judges people's character. The producers said they don't know what it is, if it's natural or mechanical or manmade. But it processes memories and the ghostly visions (Walt, the horse, Jack's dad, etc) are the monster.

****
The losties are all there and need redemption. They're heroic and transcend their old selves.
Desmond sacrifices himself when he destroyed the hatch, preventing a global tragedy. This also sent a clue to the outside world as to the location of the island. (Remember last year's finale?)
***
The polar bears were kept in the cages, they've escaped and are now roaming free.
***
Kate/Jack/Sawyer
The producers said the question went from "who will she choose?" to "who will she sleep with first?" and of course we know the answer, and Jack saw. When he told Kate not to come back for him, it was because he really cared about her and was sacrificing himself. Juliet misinterpreted the meaning when she told Kate it was because he wanted nothing to do with her. Jack hasn't given up on Kate.
***
Locke doesn't want anyone getting off the island.
***
All the lives are intertwined because *we* are all intertwined.
***
They called the purge a mass extermination where Ben emerged as the leader of the others. Locke's "specialness" threatens Ben.
***
The "magic box" that Ben offers Locke is a metaphor. The island is a magic box.
***
Cooper is responsible for the men Locke and Sawyer have become. If it weren't for him, neither of them would be on the island.
***
The cabin and Ben and Locke's meeting with Jacob was a litmus test to see if Locke was special. Jacob is above Ben in the heirarchy of the island, and now Locke is a serious threat to Ben because he can hear Jacob.
***
Jack is seen as impeachable because he brought back Juliet.
***
Naomi was sent to rescue Desmond. They said it won't happen, though, because then there won't be a show. And THIS IS NOT PURGATORY. THEY ARE NOT DEAD, NOR ARE THEY GHOSTS. They are "real people in the time space continuum"
***
Most of the characters are heroes. "They always act nobly in the spirit of community"
***
The change in the characters is what the show is about

Star
Ok, that's the notes I took, basically. It didn't seem to really answer a lot of questions, but it was kind of nice that it showed some things a little more clearly, like lining up the clips to see that yes, Claire and Jack have the same dad and things like that. I feel like a lot of the things they showed were things we knew already.

Ok, I have to get to bed, and I know this is kind of rough, but hopefully it'll help some of you that missed it. Laughing out loud
