Lost recap episode “Ji Yeon”
We start on the ship, Frank is walking around with a paper bag and is told not to be late. He heads up to the room where Desmond and Sayid are being held. A woman named Regina is sitting outside the door. She doesn’t notice Frank until he’s right upon her. She says, sorry, she didn’t hear him, and he points out to her that the book she is pretending to be engrossed in is upside down. In the room, Des says he’s feeling better, Frank drops off canned food and a can opener for the men. He tells them the captain isn’t too happy with them breaking out of the room, and Sayid tells him the door was open and they thought he had opened it for them.
On the island, Sun and Jin are talking about how long Desmond and Sayid have been gone and are wondering why they haven’t returned yet. Jin is doing well working on his English and tells Sun he wants to talk about baby names. She says they’re having a boy, he says they are having a girl. Sun insists it’s bad luck to talk about baby names, but Jin says he wants to name her Ji Yeon.
In a Flashforward, Sun is packing a bag in a hotel room in Korea. Suddenly she has a look of pain and calls the emergency number and tells them she is pregnant and needs an ambulance. We then cut to Jin who rushes into a gift shop and buys a large stuffed panda telling the man he needs to get to the maternity ward.
On the island, Kate tells Sun and Jin what happened with Charlotte and Daniel at the other station. She tells them she doesn’t think they are there to rescue the losties and that they have other motives for being there.
Back in their room on the ship, Desmond and Sayid get a note pushed through the door. It reads, “Don’t trust the captain.”
On the island, Sun introduces herself to Daniel and tells him she is two months pregnant. She then asks him point blank if they are there to rescue them. Daniel tells her it’s not his call. Sun goes to Jin and tells him to get enough food together for two days and to meet her back in their tent. She wants to go to Locke’s camp. Sun goes to Juliet’s tent to find more prenatal vitamins. Juliet catches her and asks her why she needs them, she should have another 20 days worth in the bottle she has. She knows Sun is planning on going somewhere and pushes her about her plans. Sun finally confesses that she doesn’t trust the people from the boat and she’s going to Locke’s camp. Juliet pleads with her to stay telling her she needs to get off the island to safely deliver the baby, but Sun tells Juliet she doesn’t trust her, either.
Flashforward: Sun is being wheeled into the hospital and one nurse turns to another and identifies Sun as one of the Oceanic 6. When she is in her room, the doctor tells her the baby is in distress and asks if there is anyone they can get for her. She asks them to call Jin. Cut to Jin hailing a taxi and trying to get on the phone. He puts the panda in the taxi and then starts taking a phone call. A man bumps into him and causes him to drop his phone, which is run over by a motorcycle. The man gets into the taxi and leaves with the panda bear. Jin races after the car threatening the man. He runs back into the store to get another panda bear. The man says they are all out and Jin points to one behind the counter. The man tells him it has already been sold. Jin drops a wad of cash on the counter and persuades the man to let him have it.
On the island, Kate is drawing a map to Locke’s camp for Sun and Jin. She tells them she will have to tell Jack, but she will give them a good head start. Juliet surprises them and tells Sun, and then Jin how important it is for them to try to get off the island. Sun still is leading Jin away, so Juliet tells Jin that Sun had an affair. Sun slaps her, and Jin leaves. Sun goes to Jin back at the beach and begs him to let her explain. He packs his fishing gear and starts to leave when Rose’s husband (forgot his name?) approaches and asks to come along with Jin. Jin says ok. Out on their fishing boat, he starts to talk to Jin about how they are the only two married men on the island. It causes more work because every decision must be discussed. He tells Jin that Rose has cancer, and even though the island has cured it, Rose wants to leave the island. They chose to go with Jack because it was the right thing to do, Locke is a murderer, and he talks about karma.
On the ship, the doctor comes to get Des and Sayid. He tells them the captain wants to see them. They are brought on deck to wait for the captain when Des sees Regina walking along an upper deck with chains all around her. She goes to the railing and jumps off the ship. Des starts yelling for help and he and Sayid run to the railing. The captain comes out and orders everyone back to work. Sayid asks him why he called everyone off and he explains he didn’t want to lose anyone else. His crew has an extreme case of cabin fever. He wants to move away from the island, but he can’t. Sayid asks who makes that call, and the captain says it is Charles Whitmore’s boat. He takes them to an office and pulls out a black box. He says it’s the black box from Oceanic 815. He asks if they can imagine who would have the resources and power to stage the wreckage from the ship, complete with 324 dead passengers. He says they want Benjamin Linus.
Back on the beach, Juliet apologizes to Sun. She tells her that she wants to leave the island more than anything else. She then emphasizes the dangers of staying on the island for a pregnant woman. She says in 3 weeks, Sun will start to feel extreme nausea, another week after that, shortness of breath, another week after that she’ll be in a coma and then she will die, and the baby will die, too.
Flashforward: Sun is in her birthing room and the doctor tells Sun they will have to perform a c-section. She calls for Jin and the doctor explains that the medication makes a natural childbirth difficult. Sun sees a man pass by the room and confuses him for Jin. The nurse tells the doctor the baby is crowning, and Sun gives birth to a baby girl.
On the ship, the doctor leads Des and Sayid downstairs to a new room. He asks them what they think of the captain and Sayid says he is “surprisingly forthcoming”. When they open the door to the room, there is blood spatter on the wall. It looks like someone was shot in the head, or shot himself in the head. The doctor says it should have been cleaned up and then calls to a man mopping down the hallway named “Johnson”. Johnson takes his time making his way over, and when he reaches them, we see it’s MICHAEL!!! He introduces himself as Kevin Johnson and they all pretend (?) not to know each other.
On the island, Jin brings dinner to Sun in their room. She wants to explain and he doesn’t let her. He tells her that he knows he wasn’t a good husband and that he was a different man before. Whatever she did was to the old him, and he forgives her. He asks if the baby is his and she says yes. She tells him that Juliet convinced her to stay on the beach so they could be rescued.
Flashforward: Jin arrives at the hospital and is directed to the maternity ward. When he gets to the room there is a guard outside. He identifies himself and says he brings a gift for the ambassador’s new grandchild from Mr. Paik. Before the security guard goes inside, he asks if it’s a boy or a girl. He tells him it’s a boy, so Jin puts a blue ribbon around the bear’s neck. He drops off the panda and leaves. On his way out, the nurse says to him, “leaving so soon?” and he says, “it’s not my baby.” She asks if he’ll have one soon, and he says he’s only been married two months. WOAH! Not flashforwards! Jin’s half was actually flashbacks!
In the real flashforward, Sun is putting on makeup when Hurley arrives. She tells him he didn’t have to come all this way, but he wanted to be there. He asks if anyone else is coming and she says no. She lets Hurley hold the baby girl, and he says she looks just like Jin. He asks if they should go take her to him and they leave. Hurley and Sun take the baby to a cemetery and they kneel at Jin’s grave. She tells him he was right, it was a girl, and she named her Ji Yeon just like he wanted. She says the birth was hard on her and the doctor said she was calling for him. She tells him how much she misses him.
I was bawling through the entire last scene!

Thanks for the recap, SPM!
My thoughts:
1. I knew that something was off with the Jin/Sun flashback/flashforward thing. It just seemed so disconnected. I wasn't really surprised when we found out that Jin was still in the past, but it did seem kind of dumb to do that whole thing just to fool us.
2. So, is Jin one of the Oceanic Six? Did he get rescued and then die? I figured as much but then my boss told me that he read that the date on Jin's headstone was the date of the crash. So either he died on the island sometime between now and the rescue, or he stayed behind? And Sun "speaks" to him through the headstone?
3. C'mon, was ANYONE surprised to see Michael? Harold Perrineau's name has been in the credits all season. I was thinking that they were doing that just to screw with us and then it would end up being Christian Shepherd or something. By the way, did Desmond and Michael ever even meet?
P.S. The lipstick that Sun put on in the beginning of her flash forward, right before she called the ambulance, was Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick. In case you were wondering.
1My husband pointed out a key point.
Whenever there's a Hurley, Kate, Jack, or Sun flash forward their recognized as an "Oceanic Six" member.
Regardless of the city. Last night Sun was recognized in Korea.
But when we saw flashes of Sayid and Jin no one recognizes them.
Is it possible that Sayid and Jin are not considered part of the "Oceanic Six" because they decided to work under-cover for Ben.
Remember that flashes with Sayid?
No one in the London coffee shop or anything noticed him.
If the news is big enough that Korea knows it - then London has as well.
Same thing with Jin. I'm thinking the flash last night with Jin was a flash forward and that in the future Jin decided to work with Ben and the only way to convince Sun of this was to let her think he'd died.
2so the only for sure members of the "Oceanic Six" are:
31. Jack
2. Kate
3. Hurley
4. Sun
Leaves 2 up in the air?
No, Sayid identified himself as one of the Oceanic 6. And the chick he was with even said to him, "I know you don't want to talk about the crash" so I think he is one of them. I wonder if Jin was one of the survivors Jack talked about when he said 8 survived, but only 6 were rescued... like two died on the island. So sad. I was thinking maybe Jin has problems with the time travel stuff and dies like Minkowski or something? And to cover it, they said he died earlier on the island?
And how are they going to explain the Oceanic 6 if all the bodies were found on the plane?
Why didn't anyone else come to see Sun and the baby? I guess Kate can't leave California and Jack is on drugs? And Sayid is too busy working for Ben?
4Chancleta: I don't think Jin is one of the O6.
And that guy on the golf course recognized Sayid when he introduced himself and said his entire name...remember?
5ooo...SPM...good point about explaining the O6 in the light of all the bodies being on the staged wreckage.
6SPM: You're right. They did know Sayid. Thannks for the reminder. I like your idea that Jin is one of the 8 except that the date on the tombstone doesn't match up.
7RCL: The golf course! I remember that now! Thanks!
I think Rose's hubby is Bernard. For a second there, when Hurley showed up I thought he was the dadddy & I literally almost fell off the couch :dummy:
What I want to know is WTF is up with the ship? Was Michael brainwashed or something? And what was up with the chick who chucked herself overboard?
I think Michael & Walt left before they found Desmond so only Sayid would have known him.
I love Harold Perrineau in Romeo & Juliet & Whip that is hilarious about the lippy
8omg, sashak, me too! I was like....HURLEY?! SUN. AND HURLEY?!?!? then the moment passed xD
9Michael has to be Ben's spy on the boat. There is no way Ben would have let him off the island with no strings attached. Ben must have changed Michael's identity and got him a job on the ship.
10Hi. I'm a little confused with the Oceanic 6.. because as far as I remember they are Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun, I don't know if Jin is too.. but remember a few episodes earlier .. Kate's baby.. his name was Aaron so he is Claire's son.. so he is the othe oceanic 6?
And what happen with the dead one in the last episode of season 3?
11palomlis, I don't think Aaron is one of the six because he wasn't born until after he got on the island.
I agree with you agwei that Michael HAS to be Ben's spy, there is NO way Ben would let him off the island that easy. I wonder what they will do about Walt because 1. his name hasnt been on the credits like harold parineau's and 2. its been what, only a month or so since they left, but in real life its been a couple of years and he's at that age where he looks a LOT older than he did when they left.
I had NO IDEA that the Jin stuff was FLASHBACKS!! i was SOOO confused!!! but that WOULD make sense why he was in such a rush to get the panda becaause he was working for Sun's father
and Juliet...what a----
12I am so confused. Happy to watch but confused
13Wow, I totally didn't get that Jin's part was flashbacks. I thought he faked his death or something (leaving Sun to believe he was dead) and remarried. It didn't make much sense but I just thought it was another Lost plot twist lol. Speaking of plot twists...Michael! So he is Ben's contact on the boat??
14Awesome recap! I have to watch the whole eppie again (tifauxed it) because I was confused in a couple of spots, but this recap really helped!
15I didn't get that Jins were flashbacks either until I read this.. Thank God
I was so
confused!! I watched it again last night on abc.com.. Lurve that site.
